Gallons of water needed to make stuff

We’re simply using too much water, not only at home but mostly, to produce all the things we buy. How many gallons does it take to create a…?

Car – 39000 to 75000

According to different sources, it can take from 39000 to 75000 gallons of water to make a car (!)

Some may take into account other parts such as the more 2,000 gallons used to make the tires (each taking 518 gallons to make).

Jeans – 1,800

Around 1,800 gallons of water are needed to grow enough cotton to produce just one pair of classic blue jeans.

400 are needed to make a cotton T-shirt.

Gallon of gasoline – 97

Ironic? To produce a gallon of gasoline, you need 97 gallons of water!

Food & drinks

One medium size apple? 18.5 gallons of water.

One loaf of bread? 150 gallons.

One can of soda? 16.5 gallons.

And a whooping 660 gallons of water to make a hamburger!

Cellphone – 3200

To make a smartphone, 3200 gallons of water are needed. That’s about the amount of water you should drink in 9 years of your life.

Bottled water – 1.85

Yes, to produce bottled water you don’t only need the water inside the bottle.

It takes 1.85 gallons of water to manufacture the plastic for the bottle (the average commercial ones).
